To The Folks Who Attempt To Ban Our Natural Hairstyles: We Still Rock Out w/ Our Curls Out!
My take on the Beauty Industry and the natural hair movement as a millennial hairstylist and fellow naturalista. 😊💁🏽✨ It's 2016 and the beauty industry is definitely leading as one of the most successful, highest paid, expanding careers out! I couldn't be happier about it!!
Who am I? I am Jade. I am a young Baltimore native and natural hairstylist. I cater to natural simply because of the pure love and passion that beats like an African drum through my heart for it! The beauty industry right now has more than enough room for any and everyone to express themselves through hair, makeup, and nail artistry. From your sexy, edgy shortcuts and pixies, to eye catching natural bushes and coils, to luxurious long tresses and weave. And of course I can't forget about the plethora of different looks and trends achieved by dope MUA's and nail techs! That's what I love so much about this industry!! The possibilities and variations are endles lol I'm geeked just talking about it.
Now speaking more specifically about natural hair, this thing is a journey. People often get it confused in thinking that once you decide to go natural, that means that you can go to sleep without a scarf and wake up looking like tracee Ellis Ross (who is one of my idols😍). Nah, it don't work like that! It takes work, time, and TLC! Lots and lots of TLC. One of the benefits of my own personal natural hair journey is that it definitely has helped me to love myself unconditionally. In my rawest form I've always been confident and have always loved my massive hair but through this journey I've discovered a different type of love for myself and and confidence. I have damaged my hair a bit and nursed it back to health. Point is I'm loving every part of this journey. I love trying different things with my hair and exploring different styles . I'm all about versatility. Get inspired! The ability to constantly change my look literally feels like a superpower to me sometimes. Lol. My bush is one of my most prized possessions. It literally gives me power.
I feel like today, the natural hair movement is moving like a vicious plague, in the best way of course. There's room for everyone to explore whatever style speaks to them. Away with hippity hooblah about what YOUR natural hair should or shouldn't be. No one else can define that but you. As a professional hairstylist my biggest concern is making sure hair is healthy and the integrity of it isn't compromised. With all that being said...
